Grand Funk Railroad was a legendary band formed in the 1970's in Flint, Michigan. Grand Funk Railroad or Grand Funk for short, were infamous for touring the whole world and packing arenas and stadiums wherever they traveled. The contrast between Grand Funk and rock critics of the day were fierce.

They were not critically acclaimed but the irony was that their fans and the stadium crowds loved them. In 1969 the group formed in Flint, Michigan by original members, Don Brewer Mel Schacher and Mark Farner. In fact, Mel Schacher went on to form the group Question Mark and The Mysterians, after leaving Grand Funk. Likewise, Terry Knight and The Pack was formed by Don Brewer after leaving the band as well. Grand Funk Railroad was largely successful in their heyday and were signed to 3 of the largest record companies in the world, such as MCA, Capitol and Full Moon.

In addition, they were revered by other acts and pundits alike for being a self-stated hard rock and hard blues act from the United States. They released 13 full length records in their time. Despite lack of critical appreciation, response and recognition, their first 6 releases sold very well and were hugely popular amongst the Grand Funk fans. Grand Funk Railroad were a Michigan band that stood out from the rest of their class in the 70's. They were hugely successful and made a career of touring the world and releasing albums despite critical disapproval.
